TIPS to choose the right French class

Many private schools offer French classes in France, here are some tips to help you make the best choice. What you should look out for
The schools location: be sure that you’re not going to be packed in a tiny flat or a living room for your classes. Avoid unwelcoming suburbs or being stuck out in the sticks….unless that is what you’re looking for! The learning process can be stressful and tiring, so the class environment is very important. Bright and large classrooms, nice neighbourhood, nearby social events, easy and uncomplicated access to everywhere.. Teachers: any French native can offer French classes!! There are 65 million native French in the world but … only 900 000 are qualified teachers of “French as a Foreign Language” (FLE). Only holders of a FLE Masters are specially trained to teach French to foreigners. Their experience and the pedagogic resources they use are the key factors of your success !! School facilities: it should be a welcoming place where you can meet people, work, and … if you are lucky … have access to a computer lab, a library and a social corner. Programs: not every body learns in the same way, at the same speed so mixing with different ages (seniors, students, and juniors) is not always the best solution, so make sure you choose the right session. Some schools do offer such programs; just make sure they are “real”. In any case, the Alumni feedback can be helpful. Official credits: as a gage of seriousness, opt for schools who are recognised by the Ministry of Education as “Etablissement d’Enseignement Supérieur Privé” and “Centre de Formation Continue”. It will be useful if you need to learn French for your business in France or to complete your resume. If your objective is to attend French universities (or equivalent), choose schools that offer DELF programs and make sure you can sit the exam in that same city. Cultural immersion, optional activities: French is more than a language so discover a culture, explore history and traditions, meet people and converse in French!! Many extra-curricular activities are proposed by schools. Make sure professionals perform them and prefer “theme packages” to basic programs, to avoid costly options. Accommodation: depending on your budget and your requirements, several options are available. Avoid choosing a host family if the cost is too high, this could mean that hosting people becomes more a business than a cultural opening. Either opt for a bedroom residence or individual studios run by the school and … make sure they are located in the same district. Last but not least: half board in a Hotel will be more expensive. Again, when opting for a package; you will deal with one person and get more out of the package.
